William Byrd Lee Hutcheson

William Byrd Lee Hutcheson, known to many as" Bill " or " Byrd ", passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024. He was born July 30th, 1942, in Richmond, Virginia. He was predeceased by his parents, William Hutcheson Sr. and Christine Scheper Hutcheson, and his son-in-law Thomas Lancaster. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hutcheson; his son, William Byrd Lee Hutcheson III (Anna): his daughter, Laura Lancaster; as well as his grandchildren, Nicole Jackson (Kenny), Ashlee Clark (Aaron), Tyler Hutcheson, Travis Hutcheson and Bradley Lancaster, and three great-grandchildren, Aubree Jackson, Addison Clark and Avery Clark. After graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960, he briefly attended college before transitioning to working for CSX. He married his wife of 64 years, Barbara Hutcheson in 1960 and fathered two children, Byrd and Laura, alongside her while staying with CSX for his entire career.

Outside of being devoted to his family and career, Byrd was an avid runner for most of his life. One of his favorite races to run was the annual Gate River Run. In his retirement, he gave back by assisting with the care of animals in need. If not spotted by neighbors taking tender care of his yard, Byrd could be found making conversation with regulars at the many fine wine tastings he enjoyed serving as well in his time after work. Those who remember him always remember his kind smile and eagerness for a story and a good laugh. Byrd will be missed by his loving family, and by the many friends he made and touched throughout his life. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 26th, 2024, with visitation thirty minutes prior to service in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, followed by interment in Mandarin Cemetery on Mandarin Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32223. A reception celebrating the life of Byrd will be held afterwards at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home from 3-4pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions preferred to associations that fund Alzheimer's prevention and research.
