Wilbur Margol, born November 27, 1924, Jacksonville, Florida died April 26, 2011, son of Oscar and Annie Margol (deceased); survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn; 4 children, Rodney (Lee), Lonnie (Dane), Kim Robbins (David), Wendy Pozin (Fred); 10 grandchildren, Ashley Margol, David Margol, Cale Margol, Lindsay Lipsky, Geoffrey Margol, Bradley Margol, Jereme Pozin, Zachary Pozin, Noah Pozin, Leah Robbins; 4 sisters who predeceased him (Freida, Belle, Bessie and Alice.); 2 brothers, Mendy (deceased), Bennie; Wilbur graduated from graduated Andrew Jackson High School, Class of 1942 and was a Veteran of World War II in the Army Air Force serving in the Pacific Theatre. He graduated from the University of Florida with a B.S. in Business Administration, 1948. Wilbur founded and was the President of Associated Iron and Metal Company, President of the Southeast Institute of Scrap Iron and Steel, as well as the President of the Jacksonville Jewish Center. Wilbur served as the Chairman of the Board at First Trust Savings and Loan. He was a Rotarian, avid golfer, and a skilled tennis player. He became the Jacksonville City Tennis Champion at age 15. Wilbur will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, “known always for his warm personality and positive outlook on life.” With thanks and love to Dot and Ollie for their devotion and care in this difficult time.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28th in The Jacksonville Jewish Center, with Rabbi Jonathan Lubliner, of the Jacksonville Jewish Center as Officiant.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, Alzheimer’s Association or Jacksonville Jewish Center.
