Thomas N. Thompson passed away July 23, 2019. He was born December 4, 1924 to Einer and Emelia (Nygard) Thompson in Luverne, North Dakota. As a small child, his family moved to Jamesburg, New Jersey.
He attended Princeton University and joined the U.S. Navy to become a pilot. He served in World War ll, The Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He also flew with the Hurricane Hunters and served in Antarctica with Operation Deep Freeze. When asked about his time serving in the Navy, he felt his greatest accomplishment was training young pilots. After retiring from the Navy, he continued his career working for Westinghouse. He was a member of the Mayport Flying Club.
He is predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Madelyn McQuaide Thompson. He is survived by daughters Alison Wright-Greer and Janice Specht (Steve), grandchildren Jason Wright (Sarah), Caryn Savoie (Jay), Kyle Wright (Amy), Mary Specht, Elizabeth Specht (David Masica) and great grandchildren Payton and Spencer Jackson, Justin, Jayson and Jayke Savoie, and Lucas and Mason Wright.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
