Sybil Taylor, 76, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, on January 12, 2019. Born in Jackson County, Florida, Sybil spent most of her early life in Perry, Florida. In 1961, she married a U.S. Army medic resulting in 11 moves and countless adventures before settling in Jacksonville in 1986 where she remained until her last breath.
Sybil is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Richard W. Taylor; her beloved son Jeffrey D. Taylor (Kristi); brother John Weed (Claire); and sister Janice Wagner (Jim). She also leaves behind the lights of her life, grandson, Luke, and granddaughter, Abigail. She is predeceased by her parents Rushie Sulllivan Weed and Albert Cornelius Weed. Sybil was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. As one friend put it, "Her gentle spirit and fire for the Lord is something I will always cherish." One of Sybil's favorite Bible verses was "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). Her life was a testimony to this scripture. Though confined to a wheelchair from the age of 12, Sybil had a fierce independent spirit; a determination that rivaled none; and a deep joy for the Lord that sustained her through life's many storms. Though our hearts ache to see you again, we smile knowing that you are dancing in Heaven.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 17 at 3 p.m. at Sybil's home church, Sovereign Grace Family Church, located at 13773 Main St. N. with Dr. M. Keith Foskey officiating. A meal will follow in the fellowship hall. Interment in the Jacksonville National Cemetery (4083 Lannie Road) will take place on Friday, January 18 at 9 a.m. Pallbearers include Adam Ardizzoni, Conrad "Sonny" Bishop, Travis "Tod" Denmark, Samuel Porter, Byron Starkweather, and John Weed.
