my condolences goes out to the Sanders family. Steve worked in HR @ GP Chemical in Crossett, Ar. when I knew him. He coached me as a new young supervisor & he was good at the job. I feel blessed to have known him & worked with him. And I always liked his sense of humor. He keep me on my toes.

Steve and I met several years ago, naturally, dealing with an employee relations problem. Steve guided me through the difficult and stressful situation, (stressful for me) to gain all the necessary facts to effectively resolve the situation. He at all times, has displayed to everyone his excellent knowledge, skills, abilities, wisdom and experience handling his difficult and sometimes overwhelming job responsibilities at JEA as the "Cool Hand Luke" he was. 
From the day we met we became close friends and regularly had little chit-chat sessions discussing some of our personal, work and life experiences, with a great amount of humor from his dry wit, of which I will always remember.  
Recently, I retired from JEA and he came to my retirement party to wish me farewell and he told me "Now don't' forget your good friends here so, stop by every once and awhile to say Hello". 
Rest in Piece My Brother, I will never forget you and someday, I will stop by and say hello.

Steve was a great guy. He was my HR @ Georgia Pacific in Crossett,Arkansas. He helped me out so many times. I'm proud to have known him.

Steve was just a cool guy! He used his gift of humor to bring a smile to all.  He was a tremendous asset to JEA.  His love for reading was infectious. Such a smart & amazing man :) From the day I met him in high school, until I saw him last, he has always put a smile on my face. I will never forget his simple smile that could light up the room or how interested he seemed in every flight I took out there to visit. He was loved by me and my boys so much and he will continue to always have a place in our hearts!

Mr. Steve was such an amazing man. He always welcomed me and my boys into his home. I will never forget his smirk or the affect he has had on my life. He will be forever missed.

Although I knew Steve for a short  period, he was a man you can't afford not to like. Met him during AFSCME contract negotiation where he displayed his qualities; smooth, funny, and fair. We will all miss him. May God help his family deal with his loss and may God bless his soul.

When I came to JEA a little over two years ago to work alongside Steve he was immediately welcoming and helpful.  I'll always appreciate that, for joining a new organization is inherently stressful, and having someone treating you as a welcomed peer rather than a potential competitor is the mark of someone with both confidence in his own abilities (well deserved in Steve's case), and a reflection of his warm humanity, reaching out to help a “newbie.” 

As we worked together, and I got to know him better, on the professional side I found him to be dedicated to his work, excellent at his craft, highly intelligent and a person of absolute integrity.  On the personal side, his dry, dry wit spiced with a sense of irony was not only immensely amusing, but also a welcome respite in a profession that by its subject matter often involves negative occurrences and acrimony.  

Though he was a private person and so we did not broach the subject in conversation, I came to consider him a friend, and hope that he likewise considered me to be a friend.  It was both an honor and a pleasure to have worked alongside Steve, though for a period all too short.    

I do find solace knowing that Steve is now in a better place.  (If the staff of Heaven could use a little help, I'd recommend Steve for a position next to St. Peter at those Pearly Gates, helping to question those seeking admittance – as anyone who'd seen Steve at work during a “fact-finding” knows, nobody – absolutely nobody – was better at questioning folks and getting to the truth!)

There is now a hush in your hearts, the hearts of friends and co-workers as you come together to pay your respects to the memory of one whose life was ended when called to join that innumerable heavenly family.  While you mourn the loss of your loved one, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil.
