Stanley "Sonny" Claude Putman

Stanley C. Putman “Sonny” passed away on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He was born on Oct. 22, 1943 in Salisbury, North Carolina, the son of Woodrow L. Putman and Mary B. Putman (Feagan).

Sonny graduated from Paxon High School, Class of 1961. Following graduation he attended South Georgia Junior College on a baseball scholarship. He then served in the United States Army Reserves. Shortly afterward, Sonny married Judy Higgenbotham. He was a successful independent insurance agent for 40 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where he taught preschool for many years. At the time of his passing he was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Mandarin. He was also an avid sports and loyal Gator fan.

In addition to his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his sister, Linda (Vinsel) as well as brothers, Lanny, Larry and Michael. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy; sons, Stanley “Chip” (Tracey) and Adam; daughter Leslie Black (Philip); grandchildren, Justin Black (Bethany), Katy Bretton (Chris), Stanley “Roc” Putman, Gabriel Putman and many great-grandchildren; brother, Jimmy Hargiss (Conchita) and other special family members, Jaime, Bradlee and Emma.

A private funeral service will be held Friday, April 17, 2020 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home; 11801 San Jose Blvd. Family will receive visitors prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Children’s Ministry of Faith Baptist Church of Mandarin. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Community Hospice and Palliative Care for their wonderful care.
