Sidney E. Lewis, after a short illness, died on May 7, 2024. Sid was born December 19, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, the only son of Jack and Elaine Lewis. He was raised in Miami and, upon graduation from Miami Senior High in 1952, became a student at the University of Florida. He earned membership in Phi Eta Sigma social fraternity, serving one year as its secretary. Upon graduation, he continued his educational pursuit at the College of Law where he graduated first in his class with an LLB (now JD) with honors. His first employment upon graduation was that of interim instructor at the University of Florida College of Law. His career in private practice began in Jacksonville in June of 1960 and he became proficient in the area of creditors rights. He enjoyed travel, the Gators, the Chicago Cubs, and pithy aphorisms, often commenting "It always hurts a little less on Fridays" and later that "Old age is a terrible price to pay for experience" and "Old age is the only medical condition where you were not hoping for a cure."
He was predeceased by his parents, his son Steve, an infant daughter Shannon, and his sister Judy Reznick of Brooklyn, New York. He is survived by Jeanette, his loving wife of 46 years, grandsons Jeremy and Joshua Lewis, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
