Sarah E. Alexander passed away on April 11th, 2020. She was born in Panama Beach City, Florida on January 13th, 1947. Sarah was preceded in death by Herman Thomas (father), Mina Withers (mother), Juanita Thomas Cox (sister), Donald Thomas (brother) and Dallas Thomas (brother). The death of her oldest son, Frank Mixon in 2012 was the most difficult task Sarah endured.
Sarah was proud to do security sales during her last working years, even winning some awards. She also worked for Pitney Bowes and the phone company for many, many years. For a little while, she owned a used book store in Springfield called Babbling Books. She served freshly brewed coffee for her infrequent customers before it became trendy. The family thought she was nutty. A short stent as a summer job with Adrianne in 1999 as a bate stamper for the Attorney office was very memorable and fun times they shared. One of her very first jobs was at Save A Lot where she met her 2nd husband. (Earl Alexander, Deceased the father of her children).
Sarah is survived by Shelby Mixon (daughter in law), Nathan (Nicole) Alexander (son), Adrianne Alexander (daughter), and Patricia Sipe (sister).
Her most favorite role in life was being Granny. She felt blessed to have five grandchildren and even more great grandchildren with more on the way.
Some of her best memories were getting to spend time with Julie, Sydney (her husband, David Mathis) and Thomas who are Frank (deceased son) and Shelby’s children. She really loved that she got to see them and their children at Thanksgiving this last year.
Sarah really earned her Granny title for the love she showed to Jonathan, Adrianne’s son. Until he entered Pre-K, Granny made sure he was safe and having fun while his mom worked. Their bond is special. She loves to share stories of when her & Jonathan went to Tallahassee in the Tracker to visit the family. Back in those days, the trips were much more frequent. Granny loved running the roads with Jonathan in tow.
Brayden, son of Nathan (son) and Nicole, shared Granny’s love of books and looked forward to being read to a lot every visit if he could not be outside playing with her garden toys/decorations.
Before Sarah cut back her driving, she enjoyed going to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church and exercise classes at Mandarin Senior Center.
Because of her faith in Jesus, she is totally healthy worshiping God with her son and her sister in heaven.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation to the charity of your choice or Alcoholic Anonymous https://neflaa.org/nefl-intergroup-info/finances/contribution-information/ which Sarah knows God used to help her attain 28 years of sobriety.
