Sara Caswell Holbrook, age 92, born to Amos Cleveland and Leona Davis Caswell, passed away on October 22, 2016. She was born in Heard County, Georgia on July 23, 1924, the seventh of eight children growing up on a farm in west Georgia. She was married to Carl Corley Holbrook in 1949. In 1960 she moved with her family from Atlanta to Jacksonville, Florida. She was a longtime, active member of Peeler Memorial United Methodist Church. She and Carl were happily married fifty-two years until his death in 2001.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Henderson (Scott) of Jacksonville; son, Corley Holbrook, Jr. (Donna) of Tifton, Georgia; and daughter, Cay Holbrook of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; grandsons, David Henderson (Brandy) of Jacksonville, Carter Henderson (Lindsey) of Seattle, Washington and Sam Holbrook of Atlanta, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Tallulah, Theo and Jack; and sister, Betty Zane Waters.
The family will receive friends at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd. on Tuesday, October 25 from 7:00-9:00pm. The funeral service will be at 1:00pm on Wednesday, October 26 at Faith United Methodist Church, 4000 Spring Park Road, with the Reverend Barry Andrews officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or Vision Education and Rehabilitation Center, Jacksonville, Florida.
