Sandra was an employee for JC Penney. She began her career as a part-time sales associate at the Cedar Hills store. She worked her way up to merchandise associate (assistant to department manager). After a few years, she advanced to personal manager at the downtown JC Penney store. Her next position was a buyer and department manager at the Cedar Hills store. When Cedar Hills closed, she transferred as a men's buyer at the Avenues Mall where she retired in 1995.
After her retirement, the family began to travel. They went to Alaska, Nova Scotia, and three times to the United Kingdom; London and Scotland were her favorites.
Sandra was a member of the Eastern Star, and was also apart of the Western Cutters Square Dance Group. Aside from square dancing and travel, her other favorite hobby was genealogy. She took several classes in research and spent almost 10 years searching records in many states. She went to libraries, and county courthouses up and down the east coast. She found records on ancestors back to 1617 Jamestown; she was really excited about that. Sandra held many fond memories of those research trips with her family.
Sandra is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Ruth Norton. She is survived by her husband, Richard Bailey; children Richard, Kristy, and Cynthia Bailey of Jacksonville, FL.; daughter-in-law Marlo Thomas Bailey; grandchildren Amanda Bailey Phillips, Wesley Bailey, and Ashley and Kyle Enriquez, all of Jacksonville; and great-grandchildren Ryder and Ivy Phillips.
A visitation for Sandra will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM.
