Ronald DeVon Rains, 76, died February 2, 2018 at his home in Jacksonville, Florida. Ron, known as “Ronnie” by his family, was a husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. A veteran of the United States Army, Ron served his country as an Air Defense Missile Crewman and separated with the rank of Specialist in 1962. Ron worked for the Hertz Corporation for many years in marketing and continued in the travel industry in different capacities until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, and almost any other activity his friends invited him to do. Ron often loved talking to friends about politics and the greatness and freedom of his nation.
Mr. Rains was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend and Mrs. V.B. and Evelyn Rains; a daughter, Meagan; and a granddaughter, Hailie. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, constant companion, and chief caregiver, Linda of Jacksonville; children, Veronica Cox (Christopher) of Fairfield, Illinois; Melanie Rains of Florida; Kim Nesbitt of Portland, Oregon; Stacey Robinson (John Ort) of Fort Gratiot, Michigan; Stephen Rains (Rebecca) of Chattanooga, Tennesse; and Stephanie Gibson (Chad) of Warner Robins, Georgia; siblings, Lorene Privette of Phoenix, Arizona; Jerry L. Rains of Phoenix, Arizona; Yvonne R. Hudson (Robbie) of Phoenix, Arizona; Philip W. Rains (Dreama) of Knoxville, Tennessee. Ron has 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Community Hospice and Ron’s caregivers for the support shown during this difficult time. A visitation will be held for family and friends on Wednesday, February 7, 2016 at 9:30am followed by funeral service in the Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Interment will follow at 1pm, at Jacksonville National Cemetery.
