Robert Martin Smith, Sr., age 89, passed away on July 5, 2017. Robert was a long time member of Lane Avenue Church of God for 40 years. He was an Army veteran and served his country for four years. Robert served the Army during the Korean War. He worked and retired from CSX Railroad after 30 years of employment. Robert was a loving husband, father, and grandfather; he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents, two brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 61 years, Betty T. Smith; two sons Robert M. Smith, Jr. (Alda) and Wally Smith (Lisa); daughter Robbie Cox (Dino); ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Lane Avenue Church of God, 2956 Lane Avenue North. Reverend Steve DuBose and Reverend Phil Wyatt will serve as officiants. A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
