Robert Joseph Raymond Sr. (Bob) was born on October 9, 1927 in Tampa, Florida. Since his family moved to Miami early in his childhood, Bob always considered Miami his hometown. After graduating from Miami High School in 1945, he attended the University of Miami, majoring in Business. Bob enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 in World War II. In 1948 he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant and joined his father’s business.
Bob and Johanne Harkins (Springfield, Ohio) were married January 22, 1949. In June of 1950, Bob was recalled to active duty with the outbreak of the Korean War. He served until 1952, when he again joined his father’s business. Son Robert J. Raymond and daughter Debra Raymond were born during this time. Right before Steven Curtis Raymond was born in 1960, Bob was employed with an international company. The family lived in Cedartown, Georgia, St. Louis, Missouri and finally back to the sand in Jacksonville, Florida in 1974.
Bob retired from this company in 1992 and enjoyed a full life of golf, fishing, gardening, working with computers, and caring for his lawn and home. There were many trips to his favorite spot in the Florida Keys. Bob and Steven made a formidable team racing dune buggy, winning many trophies in several states.
Bob had a happy life with his beloved wife, Johanne. They met life’s challenges head on and hand-in-hand for 73 years. He helped and supported his wife create Jodie Raymond Originals. He was proud of each one each of his children. He passed on Friday February 11, 2022 and will be interned at the Jacksonville National Cemetery. He is survived by his son Steven Curtis Raymond. Preceding him in death were his daughter Debra (2019) and his son Robert Jr (2019) and Johanne in July 2021.
Bob will be honored at a graveside service at the Jacksonville National Cemetery on Thursday, February 17 at 2:30 pm.. Please be in Lane 2 no later than 2:15pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers please contribute to the Jacksonville Ladies who are strictly a volunteer organization.
