Robert John Collins, 80 of Coquina Crossings, Elkton, FL passed away May 19, 2010. Born August 26, 1929 in St. Louis, MO the son of the late John P. and Myrtle (Myers) Collins. Robert served in the United States Navy, retiring as a Chief Yeoman and was the recipient of the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asia), the National Defense Service Medal (first and second Awards), the Korean Service Medal, the Armed forces Expeditionary Medal (Lebanon), and five Good Conduct Awards.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, he joined the United States Postal Service on Merrill road, serving route 44 for 22 years. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church of Elkton and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Club as well as the Coquina Veterans Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marie Collins of Elkton, FL; step-sons, Richard Saxon of Del Valle, TX and Jerry Saxon of Jacksonville; brothers, William “Bill” Collins and John Collins both of St. Louis; sisters, Patricia (Paul) Scucchi of St. Louis, Peggy O’Mara of Belleville, IL and Cathleen (Ed) Ricci of Dover, NJ; grandchildren, Dustin Saxon, Joseph Saxon and Cathy Saxon.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Monday, May 24, 2010 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hills Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends from 12 noon to service time on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations made to the St. Ambrose Catholic Church.
