Richard was born October 8th, 1941 to Marjorie and Neil Jenkins. He grew up on Trout River with his sister Bonnie Jenkins King Nichols.
Richard pursued college at Carson-Newman University in Tennessee, where he discovered his love for poetry and literature. Some of his work was later published in Reader’s Digest.
In 1975, he met the love of his life, Alice Jenkins. They spent the next 47 years happily married. They had two sons, Jason Jenkins and Neil Jenkins, II.
Richard was a lifelong fisherman and mariner. He obtained his USCG captain’s license. He had a profound love for the sea and saltwater fishing which he instilled in both his sons.
As his family would tell you he was a great teller of stories. Most of which involved tales of fishing, navigating rough seas and of his upbringing on the water.
When his days on the water dwindled, he found great fellowship at the Orange Park Senior Center where he would tell sea stories, shoot pool, brag about his sons and occasionally play some bingo with his wife Alice.
Richard is survived by his wife, Alice, sister Bonnie, his two sons, Jason and Neil and four grandchildren.
A visitation for Richard will be held on Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, followed by a funeral service at 11am.
