Richard Earl Higginbotham, 72 of Beverly Hills, Florida passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born on November 21, 1948 to Ruth and Earl Higginbotham. Richard grew up in Jacksonville, Florida and was a 1966 graduate of Paxon High School.
Richard was a proud patriot who loved his country and served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. He worked for the Seaboard Railroad, various jobs as a computer programmer including NCR, and the VA Hospital. In addition, he was a long-time member of the American Legion and VFW.
Richard enjoyed fishing, the beach, camping, playing the guitar, riding his Harley and sunsets. He will be missed by his faithful service dog and companion, Pringles (trained by K9 Partners for Patriots).
Richard is preceded in death by his father, Earl Higginbotham. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Higginbotham; brothers David Higginbotham (Pam) and Glen Higginbotham; son, Richard Matthew Higginbotham (Marsha), and daughter Amy Barry (Jason); grandchildren, Brett Barry, Brooke Barry Klingensmith (Cole), Brynna Barry, Blaize Barry and Breanne Barry.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 5:00 - 7:00 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205.
Graveside service with full military honors will be held Thursday, June 17, 2021 at 11:00 am at Jacksonville National Cemetery (Lane #2), 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL. Richard’s niece, The Reverend Jessi Higginbotham will officiate.
