A son, a father, a husband, a friend, a Sensei, and to a select few, a brother from another mother.
He is survived by his mother, Myrna L. Boston, two sons Chad E. Hallman & Kyle B. Hallman, a granddaughter Caitlynn A. Hallman, former wife, Charlotte Wilson (Chad & Kyle), and honoring his late former wife, Pennie Tanner.
Rick lived a full and adventurous life, having toured and played with the Gospel Band “The Crusaders” in and around the Nashville, TN area in the 1970’s, competed in semi-professional bodybuilding, winning “Mr. JAX Over 40” in the 1990’s, and his greatest love in life - the Martial Arts.
Rick was a great martial arts master; his knowledge on the martial arts was second to none. He began his martial arts studies in 1974. He trained and obtained numerous levels of Black Belt degrees in various martial art styles. Rick absolutely loved martial arts and developed his own system, which is based on realistic, street-effective techniques. The style is called Aido-Ryu Jiu Jitsu, which translates to the “Harmony of”. Rick obtained the rank of 10th Dan Black Belt and title of Soke - Head of Family, in September 2013. Soke Hallman was proud of his lineage and could trace it back to Japan in short order. He trained with some of the best in the world and was a man of honor, character, integrity, and honesty. He lived for martial arts, his family, and his friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Rick’s life will be held Saturday 17 Jul 2021 from 1200pm to 200pm at the Murray Hill Theatre, 932 South Edgewood Ave. Jacksonville, FL 32205, and will be streamed live on Facebook for those who may not be able to attend.
