He married Dawn T. Buchanan, on October 25, 1986
Ricky retired after 32 years as a Fleet Superintendent with the City of Jacksonville-Fleet Management and was a mechanic by trade.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed music, NASCAR, hunting, fishing, football, and Seinfeld. He also coached little league baseball when his sons were playing baseball. Most of all he liked being with his family at the “Buchanan Farm.”
He enjoyed grilling and smoking food at home and at charity auctions at the Fleet Management motor pool. For his retirement gift, he received a Big Green Egg from his family. He enjoyed working on pit crews for a couple of his friends’ drag cars. He played softball for several years on many teams, his number was 15, and as a teenager, he was a youth director at his church for vacation bible school.
His family surrounded Ricky when he passed away. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather and was part of large family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and in-laws. He had many friends.
He is survived his parents, J.W. and Betty Jean Buchanan; sister, Jessica Steward (Tim); wife of 37 years, Dawn Buchanan; sons, Justin Buchanan (Ashley) and Jake Buchanan (Kelsey); grandchildren, Eli Buchanan (4 years old) and Emma Buchanan (1 year old).
A visitation for Richard will be held Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will occur Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A committal service will occur Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
