Unfortunately I only recently received this very sad news. I met Phil during his stay at AMEX in Sydney and his infectious enthusiasm and genuine interest in others shone through. He was the technologies leader when we underwent a round of redundancies and he handled this difficult process with grace, compassion and understanding.

My sincere condolences.

You two wonder people brought so much joy to my Daddy, Roland I. Rice @ Lazy Day's in Tampa Fl. when he traveled over there in his motor home at 98 and 99 years old.  I have all the post cards and photos you sent to him over the years He would speak to you all on the phone too and he so loved you both. I do believe they are rejoicing today as I was able to lead Daddy to the Lord when he was 100! Dear, dear Gail and families, so saddened for you. Your memories will live on till you meet again! Sorry very sorry for your loss - keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers 

When we just joined St. John The Evangelist Church after we arrived from our home country, Bolivia. Phil was the first one to welcome us with wide open arms and gave us the chance to be active members in our parish. He has been my mentor to be a member of the Knights of Columbus. We will always keep in our memory his warm and sincere embrace, his smile and his friendly attitude towards us and the Hispanic Community. 
We are sure you are close to our Lord. Rest in peace our dearest Brother and friend. 

We remember meeting Gail and Phil at the Okefenokee Overlook in Georgia.   What a fun, loving person Phil was.   We had many camping trips and travels together and have very fond memories of Phil.  Our hearts and prayers are with Gail and family.

From the moment I met Phil on a school tour at the Sheriff's office, he was such a true joy to be around. Next, as I embarked on my journey through RCIA at St. John's, he'd always give me the biggest smile when we saw each other in Mass. He would always say how he excited he was that I was on this journey. As we were rehearsing for confirmation at Easter Vigil, he came right up to me and gave the biggest "congratulations" hug. He will be truly missed.

I am honored and blessed to have known Phillip. He has been such a blessing in my families lives and will be missed deeply.  He was always smiling.  He loved a good prank,  and gave so much of himself to others. He touched so many lives and gave so much of himself to the children of St. Josephs Academy. Some people are placed in our lives for a special reason. Phillip was one. He taught us through his example what a person should be.

I too worked with and for Phil at American Express.  In a company where all of the leaders were cut throat and ruthless, caring only about themselves, Phil was a different breed.  Don't get me wrong, Phil wanted success for himself, but he also wanted success for his people.  He cared about every person on his team and took the time to know everyone of them as a person, not just a worker.  If you told him something personal, he listened and he remembered.  Weeks after a personal discussion, he would come back to you and ask how things turned out.  That is a caring, thoughtful leader and more importantly, a caring, thoughtful person.

Unfortunately, over the years, I allowed the physical distance between us to get in the way of keeping in contact with him and Gail.  I'm kicking myself for that now.  

His passing is a loss for all who knew him as the world has lost one of the truly "good guys".

Most of my memories of Phillip come from my childhood---I was one of his Ohio cousins.  After they moved to Florida, the Webbs visited our family "up North" every summer.  Phillip also lived with us from August to December when he was in Middle School to see if the climate helped his asthma.  It miraculously did.  Phillip was just fun to be around!  Memories involve very lengthy Monopoly games.  We never quit---we played down to the last property and dollar.  There were heated, though high-spirited debates over the rules.  We feverishly read the fine print concerning the rules to support our individual case.  Sometimes we played Swiss Family Robinson.  No matter what we did, you could count on Phil to be full of joy and just pure fun.  Our last message to each other was a couple of weeks ago.  I invited them to come to Michigan and offered to take them to a great Amish Buffet.  Phil's response was, "Deal!"  A deal is a deal, and Phil, I will see you again.

I'll never forget Phil's wide grin when I met up with him and Gail at St. John's before a special event in honor of the visit of the Our Lady of Fatima pilgrim statue to the parish. Phil had his camera slung around his neck, ready to take lots of photos, and graciously helped me find my way around on what was my first visit to the church. His enthusiasm for his church and his love for Christ and His Mother are what I'll always remember. He'll definitely be wearing that big grin as he looks down upon his parish family, whom he supported in so many ways, and all of us here in the diocese.

Sincere condolences to Gail and family.  Phil was a good friend, mentor and one of the finest persons I have known.  He had a huge heart and always had the most positive outlook in every situation.  I met Phil in Phoenix and had the privilege to work with him in Florida while we were at Amex.  He and Gail came to our wedding and Christmas at the Webb’s home was always such a special event.  He helped me grow as a leader and had great insights.  He always brought out the best in people – a very rare quality.  He will be missed dearly by many.

Dear Gail and family,  Please accept our deepest condolences...  Both Nick and I truly liked respected Phil, as a person and as our leader, at American Express.   We were saddened and shocked to hear this news, as he was a man filled with joy and a real zest for life!    

We will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers.

Great Loss to all who knew Phil.    Worked with him and Gail at AMEX  both Domestically and Internationally.  His Office Door was always open for mentoring and he exhibited the highest expectations and standards when it came to Integrity.
