Peggy attended Paxon High School in Jacksonville, where she grew up. She married the love of her life, Paul David Shamp Jr., on August 12, 1962, in Charlton County, Georgia. Paul honorably served as a First Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He tragically passed away in Vietnam in 1968 while serving his country.
A faithful Baptist, Peggy was known for her generous spirit and unwavering devotion to her loved ones. She was a dedicated mother who worked hard to ensure her daughters were well-supported in every chapter of their lives. Later in life, she cherished taking her grandchildren on fishing trips, hosting memorable sleepovers, and harvesting fresh-grown vegetables with her great-grandchildren.
Peggy had a passion for cooking and was known for her delicious meals that brought her family comfort. Her blackberry cobbler was a family favorite, and her cast-iron skillet potatoes and onions were a treasured dish at every gathering. Peggy’s deviled eggs were legendary among her loved ones, always requested at holidays and cherished as a signature dish that embodied her love for family traditions. Her kitchen was always filled with the aroma of love, creating memories her family will hold dear forever.
Peggy is now in heaven with her seven siblings: Violet Louise, Norma Jean, Ona Lee (Bootsy), Maurice, Wallace, and Douglas. She is reunited with her husband, Paul David Shamp Jr.; her parents, Jasper and Hazel Ake; and her infant daughter, Pamela Reneé.
Peggy is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Patrick) and Paula (David); her grandchildren, Paul (Kim), Phillip (Tiffany), Pamela, Paige (Brian), Christopher, Kayla (Charlie), and Amanda (Chris); and her great-grandchildren, Emily, Liam, Kinsley, Zoey, Issac, and Jovie.
A visitation for Peggy will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205. A committal service will occur Friday, November 22, 2024 at 12:00 PM at Edgewood Cemetery, 4519 N Edgewood Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32219.
