Peggy Weathers Hummell, age 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 27, 2016 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to Jacksonville in her early teens. She was a graduate of Landon High School and later from the University of Florida. Peggy went on to become an elementary school teacher in Jacksonville for many years. Some of her hobbies included watching football and soccer and she was a huge Gators fan. Family was very important to Peggy and she loved her family dearly. In addition, she loved children and animals.
She is predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Rose Weathers. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia (Jerry) Avery Driscoll; son, Brad (Claudia) Avery; step-children, Karen Hummell, Sharon Brown and Steve (Ann) Hummell; grandchildren, Ryan (Hannah) Driscoll, Kevin Driscoll, Carlos Avery, Stephanie Brown Rice and Stacy; sisters, Sara (Julian) Hopson and Betty Speight; nephews, Allen (Debbie) Hopson, Scott (Christie) Hopson and Art (Carrie) Speight; niece, Sherrie Speight; and many other family members.
A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Wednesday, June 29 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10am on Thursday, June 30 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel with interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Community Hospice of NE Florida.
