Patricia (Pat) McClow passed away on Saturday, July 31st. She was born on October 5, 1925 as the daughter of, Captain Dwight J. Wharton, MD and Eugia Ellen Wharton (Sappington). Pat was raised on the West Coast, Hawaii and Guam, where her father served as a naval surgeon and her mother practiced as a nurse. Surrounded by beautiful ocean vistas, palm trees and sunshine, Pat and her younger sister, Betty Lou, enjoyed an idyllic childhood. Living in Honolulu, on December 7, 1941 their childhood of innocence would change, as the world looked upon a day that would change the course of history. Pat and her family were there to witness and live through the bombing of Pearl Harbor, where her parents were immediately called upon to save lives. It was a tragedy and vision she would never forget.
Pat attended Christian College and the University of Missouri, yet would follow her parents to the next call of duty with the Navy. Living in Guam, 1948, Pat was introduced to a handsome Navy physician. She would marry Dr. Marvin V. McClow, and they would share a beautiful life together for 48 years, until his passing in 1996. Son John, was born in 1951 as they made their way from Chicago to the East Coast and Jacksonville, Florida, where Marvin headed the Radiology Department at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Daughters Ann and Mary would soon follow as the McClow household became very active. Pat volunteered and supported St. Vincent’s Auxiliary, The GJO/TPC golf tournaments, Meals on Wheels, and the Sulzbacher Center. She was leader of her daughter’s Girl Scout Brownie troop and supported son, John, and team mates of NOL baseball. Active in the Garden Club, Pat served as, President of the Ortega Forest Circle. As an avid sportsman Pat, followed JU basketball, the Jaguar team and her passion, golf. Pat and Marv were members of Timuquana Country Club, Ponte Vedra Country Club and The River Club. They enjoyed a lifetime of golf memories and trips with their very close friends and fellow members at Timuquana. “The Goofy Golf Club” and the “Friday Night Dinner Group” enjoyed over forty years together. Pat would eventually serve as President of Timuquana’s 18 Hole Women’s Club and was a long-time member of JWGA. In her later years, she enjoyed weekly bridge games among friends.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where she faithfully attended Noon Day Prayers. Above all, Pat loved God, her family, her friends and her country. She was a strong independent woman that led with her grace and her smile.
