Omar was a Jacksonville native, a lifetime Dallas Cowboys fan, and a devote Lee General alumni. He owned several businesses, the most recent being First Coast Deli & Grill, located on St. Augustine Road. Omar’s love for cooking was clearly depicted in his menu, and for the last 10 years the Lakewood/San Jose neighborhood enjoyed his presence and outstanding food taste.
He is preceded in death by his father, Said Yacoub Akel.
Omar is survived by his loving wife, Maria Leonora Triana-Akel; mother, Suad S. Akel; brothers, Andy (Teresa) and Jack (Katherine); niece, Anna; nephews, Said, Andrew, Christopher, Jacob and Matthew.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 with Vigil Prayers at 6:00 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 11757 Old St Augustine Road, Jacksonville, FL 32258, with interment to follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32207
