MITCHELL Olive May Ogle Mitchell was born on July 11, 1934 in Mandeville, Jamaica, West Indies to Merkle Maude Campbell and Richard Ogle. She was an only child. With her family by her side, she passed away at age 82, in her home in Jacksonville, Florida on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. As a child, she attended Christiana Church School and gained distinction when she passed the First Jamaican Local Examination before she was 15 years old. She continued her education in dressmaking and culinary arts. She worked in the training capacity at the Craft Center in Manchester, Jamaica, W.I. She was married to Ronald James Mitchell on July 8, 1956. He preceded her in death, Their union lasted for 47 years. Olive migrated to the USA on October 22, 1967. She was reunited with her husband a year later and with her children a few years later. She worked as a domestic worker in the day and attended school at night. She became an LPN in 1974 and a Registered Nurse in 1987. Olive and her husband relocated from Evanston, Illinois to Jacksonville, Florida in 1992. In 1996, she suffered a serious fall that rendered her disabled. Her career as a VNA nurse came to a sudden end. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, knitting, gardening and taking care of Cricket, a cat that was given to her when the mother abandoned it as a kitten. The two became inseparable. Mourning her loss are her children and their spouses: Michael (Metelva), Neva, Wayne (whom preceded her in death), Jasmine (Larry), Sandra (Barrington), Laverne (Raymond), Nadine (Orville); three step-daughters: Norma, Betty and Audrey. She was blessed with 29 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also morning her loss is her special childhood friend, Ivy Rochester. She will be truly missed! The viewing will be held on Friday, January 27, 2017 from 6-8 pm at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 11 am at Paxon Revival Center Church, 5461 Commonwealth Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32254.
