In loving memory of Norene Davis Hodges, who passed from this life into the arms of Jesus at the age of 94 in Jacksonville, Florida on November 18, 2024. She was born in Alma, Georgia on November 19, 1929 moving to Jacksonville, FL with her family in the early 1940's.
Norene met the love of her life, Franklin (Dewitt) Hodges while working at King Edward Cigar Factory and they married on December 24, 1947 sharing 76 year together.
Leaving King Edward Cigars she chose to stay home raising her family, then returned to work in the banking industry at Springfield Atlantic Bank in 1972 and ended at Wachovia Bank in 2002.
As a long-time member of Norwood Baptist Church, she served as a Sunday School teacher, administrator, and historian. Her passion was teaching young children about Jesus and helping many come to faith in knowing God. She loved working in her yard growing beautiful flowers and spending hours putting puzzles together. In her last years, Norene found great comfort and peace living in her own home in the loving devoted care of her daughter Janice.
Norene will be remembered as a loving woman of great faith and strength by all who had the privilege to know her. She lived a humble life serving God and serving others.
She is survived by her children Dwight (Lori Hodges Williams) Hodges, Wanda (Paul) Moore, Janice Hodges, and Casey Hodges. She also leaves behind four granddaughter; Duane (Kameron) Hodges, Daniel (DeeAnna) Hodges, Briana Moore, Cooper Moore; seven great-grandchildren; her brother William M. Davis, Jr. (Diane) and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents William M. Davis, Sr. and Maude Jones Davis Sullivan; husband, Dewitt Hodges; sisters E. Pauline Stevens, Ernestine D. Carter, Eunice McManus; and brother Eugene Davis.
A graveside service will be Tuesday, November 26, 2024, 11:00am (must arrive by 10:30am) at the Jacksonville National Cemetery 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32218. Pastor Tim Lusk of Eastside Community Church will be officiating. A Celebration of Life fellowship will follow the service at Janice's home 10088 Govern Lane 32225.
