Nona L. Rush passed away October 27, 2017. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania on March 4th, 1930, she was one of seven children born to William K. Lally, Sr. and Nona T. (Hines) Lally. She graduated from Marywood College in Pennsylvania and Montclair State University in New Jersey, where she earned a Masters Degree. She was a teacher for the state of New Jersey. Upon moving to Jacksonville, Florida she then worked for the State of Florida for the Division of Child and Family Services, until finally retiring. Nona was a long time parishioner of San Jose Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. She loved to travel, was an avid bridge player, enjoyed playing the piano, and knitting.
Nona was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John J. Nooney; her sisters, Anne (Lally) Strasburger and Mary Elizabeth (Lally) Rogers; brother, William K. Lally (Martha); and her second husband, Dr.John A. Rush. She is survived by her children, John J. Nooney (Noreen), and Joseph J. Nooney; her grandchildren, Colleen (Nooney) Utley (Lee), Megan (Nooney) Nelson ( Bryan), and John Patrick Nooney; her great -grandchildren, Radford Lee Utley and Audrey Kathleen Nelson; and her siblings, George Lally (Helen), Margaret J.(Lally) Padden, and Louise (Lally) Erlich (Ken); and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.
Vigil Prayers will begin at 7:00pm on Friday, November 3rd. Visitation with family will follow from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, located at 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 4th, in San Jose Catholic Church, 3619 Toledo Rd., Jacksonville, Florida with Rev. John Reynolds, as celebrant.
