Murphy Quillan Johnson, aka "Pat", age 92, passed away on March 14, 2019 at Cypress Village Retirement Community. He was born on December 1, 1926 in Birmingham, Alabama and moved to Jacksonville in 1959. He retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement from his military service, he attended and graduated from the University of North Florida while still serving in the US Navy Fleet Reserve. After the military, he started a new career as a Trust Officer and retired from Barnett Bank. He was a lifelong member of Southside Baptist Church for 60 years of which most of those years remained actively involved in many capacities in church service. Until recent years he enjoyed most, singing in the choir at Southside Church Freedom Singers choir, and then the choir at the Cypress Village Christian Services.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Campbell Johnson, his father, Albert Sidney Johnson Sr., mother, Carolyn Ottis Hale Johnson, grandson, Justin Campbell Johnson, four brothers, and one sister. Surviving are his son, Philip Murphy Johnson (Sandy); daughter, Connie Johnson Cawthon (John - deceased); brother, George Robert Johnson; grandsons, Bryan Johnson (Tina), Chad Cawthon; granddaughters, Christi Boone (Mike), Stacy Holland (Patrick); 2 great-granddaughters, Courtney and Paige; and 4 great-grandsons, Dylan, Gunner, Walker and Nathan; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm Monday, April 1, 2019 at Southside Baptist Church, 1435 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL, followed by a graveside service with Military Honors in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of NE Florida.
