Michael B. “Mike” Campbell, 78 of Jacksonville, FL, died Friday, April 23, 2021 at the Terrace of Jacksonville. Michael Bruce Campbell was born July 15, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky to George W. Campbell and Evelyn Batts Campbell. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1979, retiring as Chief Operations Specialist (E7). While in the Navy, he was stationed on the USS Dale; USS Gunston Hall; USS Oriskany, San Diego, CA; USS Lester, Naples, Italy; USS Charles D. Roan, Newport, RI; NAS Guantanomo Bay, Cuba; Fitiron 101, Key West, FL; USS Sampson, Jacksonville, FL; and was honorably discharged to the Fleet Reserve with Armed Forces Expeditionary, National Defense Service and four good conducts awarded. His second career started in 1983 as a temporary at the IRS automated collection call site. Moving to Washington, D.C. metro, he rose to the position of Group Manager, Computer Support to the Commissioner and senior staff. He retired from civil service in July 2004.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine “Jake” Campbell; his daughters, Tégan Prosser and Tracy Scapicchio; grandchildren, Arlo, Gabriella, Jean-Jacques, Dominique & Xavier; sister and brother-in-law, Donna & Dean Cart of Jacksonville and brother, Garry of Jeffersonville, IN; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He is preceded in death by both his parents and his first wife, Patricia Siriani Campbell.
Mike’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 11:00am at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Mike’s memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice Foundation of America, or the donor’s favorite charity.
