Beloved mother, Grandma Rie, Maw Maw, sister, wife, aunt, and friend, Mavis Marie Clary Brasseit, of Jacksonville, Florida, made Heaven a little brighter on May 21st, 2022, when she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was 75 years old.
Marie was a devout Christian who, at various times, taught Sunday school, managed an office supply store, kept the accounting books for a tire store, and cashiered at Publix. She also ran an in-home daycare for her grandchildren and great niece. In later years, Marie held court at her kitchen island, using her iPad to play Words-With-Friends and stay connected with family and friends on social media. While she loved to cook, her favorite treat was a 3-Musketeers candy bar. Her favorite flowers were hydrangeas and she had a soft spot for animals, including her African Grey and love bird.
Marie leaves behind her husband, James Mark Brasseit; her children, George Albert Diaz, Jr (Lena), Denise Marie Morningstar (Glenn), Michelle Diaz Sheppard (Jim), and Jaime Leigh Estelle Brasseit; her beloved sisters, Shirley Ann Cashmore (Earl), Glenda Dell Howell, and Debbie Sue Marine (David); her grand-children, Sean Michael Diaz, Jennifer Brianna Diaz, “Trey” Glenn Waldon Morningstar III, Amy Brooke Sheppard, Brittany Marie Travis (Jacob), and Sophia Eugenia Morningstar; her future much-anticipated great-granddaughter, Ensley Marie Travis; her sisters-in-law, Linda Diane King (Mike) and Amy Melissa Converse (Charles); and many much-loved nieces and nephews. Her first husband, George Albert Diaz, Sr, pre-deceased her, as did her parents, Mavis Estelle Avery, Woodrow Wilson Clary, and Sambo Avery. Her last days were made easier through the aid of Community Hospice, for which the family is grateful.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday May 25th, from 6 to 8pm at Hardage-Giddens Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4300 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. We will celebrate her life at noon on Thursday, May 26th, at Faithbridge Church, 13720 McCormick Rd, Jacksonville, Florida 32225 with a reception following.
