Mary Brothin Allen

Mary Brothin Strickland, later known as Mary Brothin Allen, age 95, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2021 at The Pavilion Nursing Home in Penney Farms, Florida. She was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 23, 1926. Mary graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville.

She was married to Arthur LaVaughn Strickland on October 3, 1944. They were married for 46 years. They had four daughters, Sandra, Shirley, Mary Helen and Marjorie.

Later in life after the passing of Arthur she married Bernard L. Allen on May 29, 1999. They were married for 15 years.

Mary work as a paralegal for 25+ years in Jacksonville. After retiring and moving to Green Cove Springs, Florida Mary worked as an assistant in the Clay County Agriculture Department. She became a Master Gardener and helped many residents of Clay County to become Master Gardeners as well.

Mary and Arthur were instrumental in starting the Lake Asbury Baptist Church. The first services were held in her home.

Throughout her life she worked for and served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, always sharing His love with others.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra Anderson and son-in-law Mike Anderson; her daughter Shirley Jones and son-in-law Gill Jones; 5 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, October 15, 2021 at Hardage-Giddens Riverside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, located at 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205
