Martin Luchter

Martin (Marty) Luchter, 73, of Orange Park, Florida, passed away on May 3, 2013. Marty was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. Marty was born to Rose Fiegelman and Abraham Luchter on December 10, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Jacksonville with his family as he furthered his long and devoted career in the United States Navy. Marty was preceded in death by his son, David, his sister Lenore Yager, and his granddaughter, Anne Marie Reesey. Marty was married to the former Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Ordway on September 19, 1959. At the time of his death, Marty and Betty had been married for 53 years. Survivors include his beautiful wife Betty, his oldest son, Marty J. Luchter, his daughter Margaret (Meg) Reesey and her husband Phil , his daughter Karen Rowe, his daughter Sue Price and her husband Ned, and his daughter Marlo Cash and her husband Glenn, and his daughter-in-law Cindy Luchter. Marty is also survived by his grandchildren Michael, Katie, Cassie, Rose, Chris, Brittney, Joseph, Ronald, and Tiffany, great grandchild, Shane, as well as his sister Eileen King. Marty devoted over 30 years to the United States Navy. He retired with the rank of Master Chief. His devotion, commitment, and service to the United States military culminated with his earning the Six Good Conduct Award, Navy Commendation Medal, RVN Meritorious Unit Citation, Navy Achievement Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation Award, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Service with Six Bronze Stars Award, the RVN Campaign Medal, and the Vietnam Service with Eight Bronze Stars Award. After his long and illustrious career in the Navy, Marty was employed for over five years as vice-president of John Schwartz and Associates opening up healthcare clinics. For the past several years of his life, he and his partner and love in life, Betty, worked for over 150 secret shopper companies. Marty lived and breathed for his family. He epitomized goodness and devotion to everyone around him. Marty, in his own way, was a consummate leader and teacher who, by example, defined happiness and love. While Marty worked very hard his entire life, he brought happiness and joy to his family with little thought of himself. Marty will be greatly missed.

A viewing will be held on May 8th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with services following at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home located at 7242 Normandy Blvd. Marty will be buried with full military honors on May 9th at Jacksonville National Cemetery on Lannie Road at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marty’s name to The American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
