Martha Cesery Taylor passed away peacefully early Monday morning, August 22, 2022. She was born in Jacksonville on December 15, 1948 to William R. Cesery Sr. and Vesta Haller Cesery, the second of three children. She attended Arlington Elementary, Grace Chapel School and Bartram High School. She then received a BA from Converse College. She studied architecture at Pratt Institute in New York City. There she met Jeffrey Prescott, with whom she started an architectural business. They moved to Aspen Colorado and later to Destin Florida and worked on many exciting projects. When that partnership ended Martha moved back to Jacksonville and met Walter Q. Taylor, a renowned architect who was President of KBJ Architects. He was in charge of many important projects including the Orlando International Airport. Martha and Walter married and adopted an infant girl, Haller. The three were very happy for years. Their daughter Haller, tragically died in an accident in 2021 at 18 years old. Around 2015 Martha was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which she battled until her death. In the last year of her life she lived with her sister Barbara on Barbara's farm in St. Augustine.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, William and Vesta (Sis) Cesery; and her daughter Haller Taylor. She is survived by her husband, Walter Q. Taylor; a sister, Barbara H. Cesery; a brother, William R. Cesery Jr., and his fiancé Gayle Hart; a niece, Christie Cesery Parsons, her husband Brandon and their children Dixon and Nevin; a nephew, William R. Cesery III; a first cousin, Richard J. Burnett Jr.; and numerous cousins in Jacksonville, Arkansas, Arizona and Australia.
A memorial service will be held at Martha's church, Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach on Saturday, September 10th at 11:00 am. A reception to follow immediately at the Ponte Vedra Inn.
