Margaret “Peg” W. Phelps, 89, of Jacksonville, FL, former resident of Brewerton, NY, passed away on January 29, 2012. Born in Warrensburg, NY to the late Bertram and Margaret Singleton Whittemore, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Margaret earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the State University of New York in Plattsburg, NY. She was an Elementary School teacher for over 35 years having taught at Central Square, Central School System for the last 28 years of her career in Oswego County, NY. She was a member of the NYS Teachers Association. Margaret and her late husband enjoyed their camp in the Thousand Islands area of Upstate NY and traveling in their motor home across the United States. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Reginald F. Phelps, she is survived by their sons, Mark Phelps (Mary) of Liverpool, NY and John Phelps (Mary Lou) of Saint Johns, FL; sister, Alice Damp (Edward) of Warrensburg, NY; grandchildren, Daniel Phelps (Annie) of Knoxville, TN, Jessica Tomlin (Matthew) of St. Augustine, and Joanna Phelps of Saint Johns, FL; and great granddaughter, Paisley Harriet Tomlin. Margaret will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pine Plains Cemetery in Clay, NY. The family wishes to thank the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living facility for their respect, compassion and caring shown to Margaret during the three and a half years when she called Elmcroft her home.
