Laurie Shields was born in Twin Falls Idaho on April 14th, 1956. Laurie is survived by her only child Darren M. Shields. She was one of five children. Laurie is further survived by her siblings Karl Shields (his wife Susan), Steven Shields (his wife Hermie), Carol Dunn (her husband Tom), and David Shields. With all people, she was gentle and kind; She was encouraging and quietly supported many outreaches in the community. Her musical ability especially with the violin enabled her to share her talent. She took great delight in living her life, making sensible decisions. Although she harbored the hidden illness of Lyme Disease since childhood, she kept a positive attitude and firm determination. She hated being weak, she felt that she should demand more of herself. She never knew how special her fiercely-lived life was. However long and difficult, she walked in grace and put others first. She expressed regret that she was unable to befriend and become closer to those who cared for her with their many kindnesses. The past two-year battle against cancer opened her life to include the loving care of many. The generosity of love caused her to proclaim to everyone that she had never been happier in her life. She wanted a miracle of being healed or peacefully passing into the arms of her savior. She has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, she has kept the faith and she is now in the arms of the Lord. We will celebrate Laurie’s life and all that she meant to us with a memorial service to be held Sunday, June 23, 2013 in the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home located at 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville FL 32207 with Pastor Fidel Soto officiating.
