Joseph “Joe” J. Mitchell, 89, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away in the presence of his wife and family on July 29, 2016 at Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, FL following a brief illness. Joe was born April 24, 1927 in Lower Salem, Ohio and was a member of the Naval Seabees Construction Battalion in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was owner of Mitchell’s Barber Service in Northridge, OH and The Hair Hut in Tipp City, OH before semi-retiring (barbers never completely retire!). His personal passion was gardening and growing African Violets. He was also a member of the Mount Moriah Masonic Lodge #37 in Beverly, OH. Joe is predeceased by his mother, Lizzie Ridgeway Mitchell; father, James H. Mitchell; brother, John J. Mitchell; and granddaughter, Megan Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Freda Young Mitchell; daughter, Connie Kostoff (Jim) of Indian Rocks Beach, FL; son, Brent Mitchell (Allison); grandchildren, Ashley Mitchell and Christopher Mitchell, all of Jacksonville, FL; and nephew Jay Mitchell (Sherri) of Oak Ridge, TN. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin, 11801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, FL 32223. Interment to be followed at a later date in Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, OH.
