John D. “Jack” Whitlow, Sr., 85, of Jacksonville, passed away on October 21, 2012. He was born in Ridgeway, PA to the late Jesse Gilbert and Ethel Hager Whitlow. Jack joined the US Army Air Corp after graduating from Andrew Jackson HS in 1944. He married the love of his life in Arcadia, FL in 1948. He attended evening classes at Jacksonville University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting in 1962. He was selected as the first Outstanding Evening Student at the college. Jack was owner of Whitlow and Whitlow for over 30 years. He was a member of Arlington Methodist Church and 1st Coast Golf. He loved to travel. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Laura B. “Laurie” Whitlow; son, John D. “Dan” Whitlow, Jr. of Baltimore, MD; daughter, Luanne W. Goodloe (George) of Stanton, VA; grandchildren, Erin Varela (Juan) of Baltimore, MD, Miles Goodloe and Elizabeth Goodloe; great grandchildren, J. C. and Sofia Varela; along with other family members and friends. Jack was preceded in death by his siblings, Margaret, Leona, Jesse Jr., Elizabeth, and William. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 25th with visitation one hour prior to service in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with Dr. M. M. Gibbs and Rev. William Fisackerly as Officiants. Interment will follow in Arlington Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Jack’s name to the charity of choice.
