John Joseph Long Jr.

John “Jack” Joseph Long passed peacefully on July 24, 2014. John was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of John and Grace Long. John was a graduate of Villanova University and a 1st Lieutenant in the 8th Air Force where he flew 35 combat missions. John came to Jacksonville in 1971 as the Marketing VP for Unijax Paper Distributors. He has been a resident of Deerwood Country Club since coming to Jacksonville where he enjoyed golfing with his friends. He was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church. John is survived by his wife of 35 years Jean Long. He was predeceased by his wife Clara Ann Long and is survived by their children Edward (Elaine), Kathy (Bob), Michael, (Marnee), Tom, Jane (Neil) and Bob. He has eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 in Holy Family Catholic Church 9800 Baymeadows Road, Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers a gift can be made to NE FL Community Hospice Sunbeam Road. John is greatly missed and his friends and family will remember his keen sense of humor and gentle spirit but above all his unconditional love for each of them.
