Joanna Meredith

Joanna Jones Meredith, 79, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on August 24, 2023. Born in Louisville, KY to parents Carl and Edith Jones on June 14, 1944, she was forever proud to celebrate her birthday on Flag Day. Joanna spent her childhood and early adulthood in Louisville, graduating from Butler High School in 1962, marrying Dennis Meredith, the boy next door, in 1964, and welcoming four children into the world before relocating to Jacksonville, FL in 1981. Joanna was a true homemaker and loved nothing more than creating a warm and welcoming environment for her family and friends; she was never happier than when her home was filled with loved ones, eating her delicious meals and laughing together around the table. Joanna was an incredibly talented seamstress and crafter; there wasn’t a creative skill she didn’t attempt and then perfect. She reupholstered furniture, made all her curtains and clothes, plus her daughters’ wedding and prom dresses, painted anything that couldn't move away from her brush, knew how to macrame before it was trendy, and cultivated her yard into a lush, tropical retreat. And she did it all while singing along to music playing in the background—usually gospel music from the First Baptist Jacksonville choir, of which she was a member in the alto section for 20 years. Anytime you were welcomed into her home, she would always show you her latest project and then tell you all about Jesus. A woman of God her entire life, she read her Bible daily and prayed faithfully. We rejoice with her now, knowing she has gone home.

Joanna follows her husband, Dennis W. Meredith, in death and into eternity, just four months after his passing. They were married for 58 years. Anyone who knew them couldn’t imagine them apart, and we are comforted by their reunion in heaven. Together they join their parents and son, David Jonathan Meredith, who preceded them in death. She has left behind a loving and grateful family: her son Clark Meredith (Lynne); her daughter Suzanna Palmer (Doug); her daughter Amy Meredith Byrd (Jeff); her grandchildren David Palmer (Jane), Kent Meredith (Elaina), Molly Davis (Nick), Kevin Palmer (Mandy), Brooks Meredith, and Evan, Oliver, and Elliot Byrd; her sister Carol Northcutt; her brother David Jones, and their families.

A service for Joanna will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 1 PM, at Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 SR 13, St. Johns, FL 32259, with a reception to follow.

A service will be held at 2 PM Friday, September 15, 2023 at Arch L. Heady at Resthaven Memorial Park, 4400 Bardstown Road, Louisville, KY 40218; visitation begins at 1 PM.
