For years, Jean drove a school bus and later became an independent contractor. She was a steady presence in the lives of countless children, ensuring they arrived safely at school each day. Her dedication went beyond her job; she knew every child's name, their favorite hobbies, and often, their dreams. She was the first smile many kids saw in the morning and the reassuring voice that sent them off in the afternoon. To many parents, she was more than a driver—she was a guardian, a pillar of the community who cared for their children as if they were her own. Everyone knew they had a friend when they saw Ms. Jean on bus 154.
Jean was a member of the Choir at First Baptist Church. She served on the Duval County School Bus Contractors Association as Secretary for many years. On Sundays, (for more than 20 years) she drove for Trinity Baptist Church picking up from the City Rescue Mission to take the needy to church. She was an avid member of the Sheriff’s Watch Program. Her dream in life was to open a Group Home, to create a safe space for those in need. While she may not have achieved that dream, she always had an open heart and an open door and would help anyone in need. One of Jean’s greatest joys was singing karaoke, especially to the timeless songs of Patsy Cline. Karaoke nights were filled with joy, laughter, and sometimes a few off-key notes.
Jean is survived by her loving children, Charles, Debra, John, and Billie Jean, as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a devoted parent, always putting her children first. Her favorite quote was, "she did the best she could with what she had". Her legacy will live on through the lives of her children.
