Janie I. (Brownlee) Yarbrough, age 98, made life’s final journey February 28, 2013, at home in Salem, Oregon. Janie “walked with God, and then (she) he was not, for God took him (her).” Gen. 5:24 She was born December 15, 1914, in Clara, Mississippi, to the late Robert E and Ada Leah Brownlee. She was called by her middle name Inez most of her life and was known as Reverend Janie after becoming an ordained minister. On January 25, 1941, she was united in marriage with William Emmett Yarbrough, Sr., in Sulfur Springs, FL. The Yarbrough’s lived in the Florida Keys for over nineteen years before moving to Jacksonville in 1981. She moved to Oregon after her husband passed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William, Sr., an infant daughter at birth Gloria Inez; brothers Harry, Andrew, and James Brownlee; daughter-in-law Idoly Yarbrough; and grandson Joshua Yarbrough. Janie is survived by son William, Jr., Salem, OR; son Thomas (Marie), Key West, FL; son John (Sharon), Bismarck, ND; son Timothy (Dorothy), Jacksonville, FL; ten grandchildren, Gina Lekas (Thomas), Francesca Yarbrough (Tasia), Danielle Reddy (Michael), Salem, OR, Derek Yarbrough, New York City, NY, Jason Yarbrough (Donnie), Key West, FL, Noland (Lori) and Nicolas Yarbrough (Alesha), Bismarck, ND, Jessica Mertz (Joshua), Hudson, WI, Michael Yarbrough, Key West, FL, Vanessa Ismail, Dallas, TX; grand-daughter-in-law Megan Yarbrough; and fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters Ada Mae Ballard, Jacksonville, FL. and Melanie Groome, Brandon, FL. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many friends. Funeral services for Janie Inez Yarbrough will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. The Rev. Jonathan Cox, will officiate. Entombment will be in Riverside Memorial Park Mausoleum. Relatives and friends are welcome at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. on Saturday, March 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, and on Sunday from 1:30 PM until the hour of services. The First Church of God on Dunn Avenue is a major part of the Yarbrough family. While in the Florida Keys, they built a church and pastored there for 17 and a half years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Northside First Church of God on Dunn Avenue, PO Box 26420, Jacksonville, FL 32226-6420.
