He was born in West Point, Georgia and completed High School in Lanett, Alabama. He furthered his education here in Jacksonville at Massey Tech and Business School where he met his devoted wife of 52 years, Sandra.
James had a love of building and creating which served him well over his career, working at prestigious Architectural Firms such as Saxelbye and Rink Reynolds. His contributions can be seen in many buildings in Jacksonville to include but not limited to the New City Hall. He also spent 3 years in Wilmington, DE working on the Alfred I DuPont Hospital.
James and Sandi had two wonderful children Eric (Melanie) and Kelly (Dave). Between those are 5 beautiful grandchildren Harrison, Madison, Zachary, Charlotte, and Lucas. The Wood family loved watching their grandkids participate in sporting events and spent countless hours at local fields.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors and staff at Elmcroft Senior Living/Memory Care, Baptist Medical Center South, and Community Hospice. Thanks also to the many family and friends who assisted during these difficult days.
The family will hold a visitation and memorial service at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose, on Saturday, September 12 at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care (https://www.communityhospice.com/give/) or the Jacksonville Humane Society (https://jaxhumane.networkforgood.com/projects/65156-main-donation-page).
