James Anthony McCullough was born at the Homeopathic Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island on October 16, 1935, he departed this earth at the age of 85 as a result of recently contacting COVID-19. He fought a very courageous battle with this unrelenting virus. Alas, Jim passed away peacefully at Baptist Medical Center South, Jacksonville Florida. Jim was married to the love and joy of his life, Bonnie June (Gates) McCullough for 29 yrs. On Monday, November 9, 2020 he returned to her open arms, trusting and waiting since she passed that he would again rejoin her and at last be in her loving embrace.
Jim was the son of the late Eugene Roger McCullough Sr. & Agnes (Morrison) McCullough.
Jim is survived by his Brother Roderick A. McCullough, Houston, Texas, cousin, Jack McCullough, (husband, John P. Boomer) of Riverside, Rhode Island, step-grandson David Gates, (Wife, Kristine) also of Jacksonville. He was also the brother of the late Eugene R. McCullough, Jr. Jim also leaves behind his precious pets Savannah and Sam.
We wish to honor; his thoughtful neighbors, Angels really for all the care and kindness they bestowed upon Jim and his home not only during these tough times, but through life.
A host of amazing friends and church gatherers, all his wonderful co-workers and acquaintances at the Duval County Courthouse, Jacksonville, FL. Jim worked as a Civilian Bailiff there for many years and loved being a part of this community which he treasured. Remembering St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jacksonville where Jim found yet another community of support and friendship.
Jim served his country proudly and was honorably discharged from the United States Army Missile Command at Fort Carson, Colorado on March 23,1960. He was remembered at his discharge by his Superior Officers as a hardworking, decent, honorable, truthful and loyal man. Traits that wove themselves through the rest of the fabric of his life.
Jim will be interred privately at the request of the family. A memorial service has been planned and will be held at a later date to be announced due to the COVID- 19 Pandemic.
