James Lee Everidge McClure, Jr. (Lee) passed away on September 12, 2018. He was 79 years old at the time of his death. Lee was the only son of James Lee Everidge McClure, Sr. and Lucille Dean McClure, who preceded him in death. He was born in Seco, Kentucky to a family with 2 sisters – Beverly and Doris, who preceded him in death. They moved to Jacksonville when he was six years old. He grew up in the Springfield area in its heyday and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School.
The family was very active in Franklin Street Baptist Church and he loved to tell the stories of all the mischief he was involved in. He was a treasure trove of stories and he loved telling them. Lee met the light of his life, Corinne Peterson, where they both worked. They were married on December 5, 1975, by Dr. Robert Updegraff at Riverside Avenue Christian Church where they were active and continue to be active. Lee has served as Deacon, Elder, Trustee, choir member, and chaired and/or served on many committees. He taught the Rainbow Class, a Sunday School Class of senior women that he adored and they all adored him.
Lee loved his family, art, antiques (don’t plan anything on Monday night, ‘cause “Antiques Roadshow” is on), chocolate cake, elephants, and sheep.
Lee leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy, his wife, Corinne; a daughter, Jolie McClure Newman (Tony); grandchildren (Julian, James, Elizabeth, and Isaac); nephews (Richard Pringle (April) and Dean Pringle (Jennifer) and grand-nieces and nephews (Caleb, Hannah, Luke, Jordan, Jessica, and Jared Pringle) and a host of cousins.
A Memorial Service and celebration of his life will be held on September 24 at 11:00 in the morning at Riverside Avenue Christian Church with Rev. Kimberly Weir and Rev. Rick Hull officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend the Memorial Service and a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Riverside Avenue Christian Church or Community Hospice.
Arrangements by Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 729 South Edgewood Avenue.
