William “Jack” Jackson Hogan Jr., 67, passed away April 14, 2017 in Jacksonville FL. He was born in Holyoke, MA on October 11, 1949 to parents William Sr. and Alva Hogan. Jack graduated from Paxon High School in 1967. He married the love of his life and his best friend, Clara Davidson on November 8, 1969. Jack is predeceased by his father, William Jackson Hogan Sr.
Jack retired from a long career with Bellsouth and also founded Hogan Karate International. As a martial arts instructor, Jack had a 10th degree Black Belt in Ryukyu Kempo Karate and a 5th degree Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. He earned numerous martial artists awards, including several Hall of Fame inductions. He was a member of many organizations, including the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Jack was a Green Beret in the 3rd Battalion, 20th Special Forces group of the Florida National Guard and also served in the Florida Air National Guard. He also held the high honor of being knighted as a Knight of Honor in the Sovereign Military Order of St. Michael.
Jack is survived by his wife, Clara Hogan, his children, Amy (George) Bolt, Katrina (Sam) Hope, and David (Jessica) Hogan, and his grandchildren, Anthony (AJ), Eric, Hadley, Bradley, Sarah, Galen, Ben, Cierra, and Lorna. He also leaves to cherish his memory his mother Alva Hogan Palmer, stepfather Bill Palmer, brother Al Hogan, sister Melody Friedt, stepbrother Tom Palmer and stepsister Sheri Blecker. Jack was dearly loved by many and he will be greatly missed.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00pm Monday, April 17, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens, 729 Edgewood Ave. S., Jacksonville FL 32205. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Oceanway, 212 Sago Ave., Jacksonville, FL 32218. Pastor Herb Young will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jack’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Community Hospice of NE FL. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage-Giddens, 729 Edgewood Ave. S., Jacksonville FL 32205.
