He was born in Jacksonville, FL on October 18th 1945, the first son of Marilee and Walter Shinn. Howard graduated from Forest High School in 1963. He attended the University of Georgia and played football. He then went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corp in the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he finished his education at the University of Georgia. He earned a BS in Education in 1972, and a Master in Education in 1973.
Howard is survived by his two daughters: Julie (Paul) of Pleasantville, NY and Jennifer (Michael) of Holden, MA. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and beloved brothers and sisters.
Howard had a love of working with his hands. He turned this into a career of restoring homes and painting. He worked for Serv-Pro in the 1970's and continued many successful years as a business owner of Shinn's Painting and Decorating.
Howard had a fierce love of the Lord, and was an active member of First Baptist Church. He sang in the choir and taught Sunday School for many years. Howard also loved football, as he had been a star offensive lineman in High School and College. Howard found peace at the beach, spending his days fishing, reading his Bible and writing songs to worship the Lord.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Feb. 21st at 11am at Heritage Park Clubhouse (225 Hefferon Drive) in St. Augustine, FL.
