George was born on October 12, 1945, to Hardy Matthew Harrell, Sr. and Edna Mae
Harrell in Jacksonville, Florida. His favorite childhood times were spent with his
brothers, Hardy and Monroe, on the St. Johns River. The Harrell boys were avid water
skiers and boaters. George’s love for water sports led him to become a champion skier in his high school years. Throughout his childhood, George showed a love for church and affinity for hymns. These two loves cultivated two lifelong commitments: church and piano. George was dedicated to attending church every Sunday, and you could hear him playing hymns at home on the piano.
As a young adult George was a pilot and enjoyed flying for private companies. Later, he joined the family business at Gulf Life Insurance. Following his insurance career, he was employed by Specialty Freight. After retirement, George and his wife enjoyed daily time with their two grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
George served as an usher at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. With a twinkle in his eye and a lively joke to share, he lived to help and serve his church community. Outside of church, he was quick to share his faith and ask others how he could pray for them.
His famous last words were, “Go to church somewhere.”
Preceded in death by his parents, Hardy Matthew Harrell, Sr. and Edna Mae Harrell; his brothers, Hardy Matthew Harrell, Jr and E. Monroe Harrell; and his nephew, Hardy Matthew Harrell, III. George is survived by his loving wife, Reecia Harrell; his daughters Lisa Harrell of Charlotte, NC and Courtney Harrell Haddock (Shawn) of Jacksonville, FL; two grandchildren, Shawn and Millie Haddock; his nephew Andrew Morris Harrell, and many other cherished family and friends.
