Gena Hatchell Johnson

Gena Hatchell Johnson, 101 went home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2016. She was born in Cades, South Carolina. Gena attended Winthrop College. She taught Sunday School for many years and loved being with the children. She served in many different areas of ministry throughout her life, along with her husband, Gus, as his helpmate. She wrote Sunday School lessons for the The Southern Baptist Convention, and enjoyed her time working in the Ministry. She was member of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church for many years. She loved traveling, her flowers, and reading.

Gena was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Gustave Johnson; her father, Harlee H. Hatchell; mother, Margaret Hatchell; brothers, Leon, Earnest and C.W. Hatchell; sister, Wila Mae Alvaro; sister-n-law, Dorothy Holder; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida 32207. Pastor Kyle Reese of Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be sent to Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church.
