Frances Baird Allen of Atlantic Beach, Florida died October 14, 2017 at the age of 86. Eldest child of Fred and Vernell Baird, Frances was born June 14, 1931 in Hoschton, Georgia at the Allen Clinic and Hospital, delivered by her future father-in-law, Myron B. Allen Sr. She graduated from Braselton, GA High School and attended Georgia State College for Women (now Georgia College & State University) from 1948 – 1950. She acquired a Teachers Certificate and taught elementary school in Hoschton, GA from 1950 – 1952. In April 1953 she married Myron B. Allen Jr. and moved to Hawaii for six months while her husband’s ship was being refitted at Pearl Harbor. She returned to Hoschton, and lived with her parents until March, 1955 when Myron was discharged from the U.S. Navy. She moved to Atlanta, GA where Myron attended Ga. Tech on the G.I. Bill. In 1958 they moved to Richardson, TX where Myron worked for Collins Radio and attended SMU Graduate School. In 1961 they moved to Berkeley Heights, NJ where Myron worked for Bell Telephone Laboratories and Frances served as a Cub Scout Den Mother and was active in the New Providence Presbyterian Church. In 1965 they were transferred to Holmdel, NJ. While in Holmdel Frances served as a Girl Scout Leader, was President of the Holmdel Music Association and served as Sunday School Director at Holmdel UCC. In 1983 she received an Associates Degree in Library Science and worked as a Sr. Library Assistant at Monmouth County, NJ Library. In 1987 Myron retired from Bell and Frances retired from the library. They moved to Cary, NC where Myron worked for Northern Telecom. With three children now grown, Frances spent her time with her husband, visiting major cities in the US and Canada. In 1998 Myron retired for good and they moved to Salem, SC. While there Frances volunteered at both the Keowee Key and Keowee Elementary School Libraries. In 2008 they moved to Wesley Commons, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Greenwood, SC. Frances volunteered in the Wesley Commons Mail Room and participated in the Presbyterian Women’s Circle. In January 2015 Frances and Myron moved to Fleet Landing, a CCRC, in Atlantic Beach, FL to be near family. Frances left behind Myron, her husband of 64 years, three children, Myron Allen III, Virginia Natter and Mary Piekarski; four grandchildren, Rebecca Dean, Ritchie King, Emily Piekarski and Grace Piekarski; and three great-grandchildren, Elinor Dean, Katherine Dean and Ada Elert-King.
