Eleanor C. Baker of Jacksonville, FL passed away on March 30, 2022. She was predeceased by her loving parents, Grace and Rufus Chance. In 1972, she married Harold J. Baker of Jacksonville who predeceased her in August 1999. Together they owned and operated a successful dental practice for more than 50 years. Upon his death, she ran Baker Dental Center, Inc. for several years.
Eleanor is survived by her sister Elaine Carson (Steve) and brother R. Edward Chance (Janet), in addition to four stepchildren: Elliott Baker (Sally), Sheri Baker, Richard Baker, and Paul Baker (Jackie). She was predeceased by a fifth stepchild, Barbara Baker Torres, in 2009.
She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
Eleanor was devoted to family and friends, and was always there to offer a helping hand. She was the supreme caregiver, taking compassionate care of several family members and friends throughout prolonged illnesses.
Eleanor loved music and singing, and enjoyed her many beloved pets, including a variety of both pedigreed and mixed breed dogs, cats, and birds.
As the years passed, Eleanor spent more and more time at her mountain getaway home in Gatlinburg, TN. She loved exploring the local sites and restaurants with family and friends.
Eleanor enjoyed her life and lived it the way she wanted. As Frank Sinatra said in his famous song, “I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way."
Graveside funeral service will be Monday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207
