Edward J. Mier, also known to many as Grandpa, Peepaw or Mr. Jack, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at the age of 88. Edward was born October 20, 1933 in Mayport, Florida. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather and was just an all around wonderful man who would do anything for anyone. He loved to go to the beach first thing in the morning to watch the sunrise. He started working for the East Duval County Mosquito Control District in 1954 and joined the consolidated City of Jacksonville in 1968 which he retired from in 1995 after 41 years of service.
Edward was preceded in death by his father, Edward P. Mier; his mother, Carrie E. Mier; and his grandson J.J. S. Stoddard. He is survived by two daughters, Jenny L. Stoddard (husband Mark Stoddard) of Ft. White, FL, and Betty J. Whaling (husband Carl) of Jacksonville, FL; one son Edward J. Mier JR of Jacksonville, FL.; seven grandchildren Justin Stoddard (wife Kellie) of Duette, FL, James Stoddard (wife Dani) of Brunswick, GA, Jenny Hamilton (husband Josh) of Ft. White, FL, Jessie Bell(husband Scott) of Jacksonville, FL, Joshua Proffitt (wife Ashlea) of Bozeman, MT, Tommy Proffitt of Jacksonville, FL, and Tera Whaling of Margate, FL; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
A visitation for Edward will be held Friday, January 21, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A graveside service will occur Saturday, January 22, 2022 from 10:00 AM at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
